It’s that time of year again where I overcommit myself to a million tasks because let’s face it – I’m a Virgo. Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by your to-do list and constantly wishing for more hours in the day? I can’t be the only one who does this to themselves! Since I have renovations on the brain, I think it’s the perfect time to unveil my running list of home design projects for 2024. One of my personal goals this year is to only commit to the things that really get me excited – I think it’s safe to say that completing each of these projects would check that box!

The Family Room

The first project on my list is the family room which you could consider the heart of our home. Of all the rooms in our house, this one has claimed first place for most hours spent. I’m sure many of you can relate to spending most of your time in one particular room in your house – and I’m even more sure you’ve thought about what you can do to update it!

There are so many awesome features in our family room that drawing up the preliminary plans has been super easy. With cozy low ceilings and ample amounts of space and natural light, there’s so much potential waiting to be unlocked.

My biggest complaint about this room is that the existing built-ins aren’t a great fit for our TV. We’ve been in the house for over a year now and have been living with the TV on the floor. I know it’s not that big of a deal and is just a temporary solution, but it’s definitely been a lesson in adaptability for me.

The Breakfast Nook

Directly behind our family room is the breakfast nook which also flows into the kitchen. When we first moved in, we didn’t own a dining table. This led to multiple friends and family members bumping their heads on the existing chandelier. Remember when I mentioned that we have low ceilings?

To get us by (and to avoid any additional injuries), I snagged a $40 dining set from Facebook marketplace. This furniture set is definitely a humble placeholder until we are able to invest in pieces that fit both our style and lifestyle needs. But for now, it works just fine.

My goals are pretty straightforward for this space: a fresh coat of paint, new furniture, and a new chandelier. While the breakfast nook may seem like a small area, I believe every corner of our home deserves attention and personality – no matter its size or function.

The Laundry Room

A laundry room might not typically top the list for home design projects, but in our case, it’s a priority we can’t ignore. Located inconveniently on the first floor, our laundry room is a focal point for anyone stepping into our home.

Personally, I feel that the orange walls, black tiles, beige countertops, and cherry cabinets overwhelm the space. Not to mention, the material use feels really harsh and doesn’t quite match the style of our home. While the cabinets themselves are in excellent condition, the rest of the design choices need a serious revamp.

Since this space sees its fair share of traffic, it deserves a refresh that authentically reflects the style of our home. I also keep telling myself that once this room is updated I will actually enjoy doing laundry..

The Dining Room

Last but not least – the dining room. This marks the first time I’ve lived anywhere with a proper dining room, and I really want this space to feel special!

Located just off our front entrance, this space is the first thing guests see as they enter our home. The current color scheme lacks the warmth and hospitality I dream of for this area, and don’t even get me started on the carpet. When and why was that ever a trend?!

If you made it through this list, thanks for following along. I’m thrilled to dive into each of these projects and even more excited to take you along for the ride! I anticipate that these renovations will be quick, straightforward, and won’t break the bank – the perfect combination for tackling multiple projects without feeling overwhelmed.

But enough about my home design projects – I want to hear about yours. What home project is at the top of your list this year? Is it a troublesome spot that desperately needs attention? Or perhaps the room where you spend the most time?
