It’s that time of year again when the design world is buzzing with excitement and speculating about what will define style in the year ahead. As a designer, few things thrill me more than diving into the upcoming 2025 interior design trends and sharing whats on my radar. This is one of my favorite topics to explore because it ties into a question that I hear all of the time: How do I incorporate trends while keeping my home timeless?
I’ve got you – just keep reading.
In 2025, we’re seeing a shift toward bringing life back into our homes with lots of bold colors, dramatic patterns, and rich textures. Gone are the days of lifeless neutrals – we’re stepping into spaces that feel vibrant, soulful, and full of personality. And honestly, I couldn’t love it more because as someone who adores color – it will always feel timeless to me.
Dark Woods

Dark woods have been a staple of interiors for centuries. But, with the rising popularity of Scandinavian design, they have only recently started trending back into popularity. Using these deep tones is a go-to choice for designers who want to ground a room or add a touch of rich sophistication to an interior. While lighter woods may come and go in popularity, dark woods have never really gone out of style.
The allure of dark wood lies in its depth and versatility. Pairing beautifully with a range of interior styles, dark wood will easily transition with any updates made to your home. Dark wood also ages more gracefully than it’s lighter counterparts and will deepen over time as it absorbs light. My favorite thing about using dark woods in an interior is that it is guaranteed to get better with age!

The key to keeping dark woods from feeling too heavy or overly trendy is balance. Pair them with lighter elements like soft linen upholstery, neutral walls, or breezy curtains to avoid a room that feels too dark. Keeping furniture lines clean and finishes natural also allows dark woods to shine without feeling overly ornate.
Rich Color Palettes

For the last few years, we’ve slowing started seeing a return to deep and inviting color use in interiors. It goes without saying that using these rich shades create a sense of intimacy and make spaces feel more inviting.
Rich colors (much like dark woods) have an inherent sense of depth and permanence. When applied thoughtfully, they add layers of warmth, intrigue, and sophistication to a room. To make sure these rich colors don’t feel trendy or dated, the key is to incorporate them in a way that feels both intentional and balanced.
Instead of painting an accent wall, consider color drenching the entire room in a bold color. If you’re nervous about committing to overall color, start with furniture or smaller decor items like throw blankets or artwork. Over time, you can build up layers that add to the richness of the space.
Layered Patterns

Lately, I’ve been absolutely captivated by the art of layering patterns. Similar to dark woods, we can also date pattern mixing back centuries. Some of the most timeless ways to layer patterns is pairing florals with stripes and ginghams with toile. But, you can also layer floral on floral (like the image above) to create a really bold and fun interior. The beauty of layered patterns lies in their ability to tell a story and give a space a unique personality.
Layered patterns are timeless because they reflect a deep-rooted love for texture and visual interest. Mixing patterns creates contrast, injects life into a room, and is an easy way of balancing formality with playfulness. The secret to layering patterns effectively is all in scale and balance. Pair large patterns with small ones, or use a consistent color palette to keep everything unified.
Layering patterns works beautifully in both modern and vintage-inspired spaces. Just remember, the key is restraint – layer, but don’t overwhelm!
Details on Furniture

When it comes to 2025 interior design trends, it’s all about the small (but impactful) details that make a furniture piece really stand out. Contrast welts, subtle fringe trims, and intricate button tufting are about to be everywhere – mark my words.
Details like contrast welts and fringe are rooted in the craftsmanship of older furniture styles and add heaps of character. In the same way that fine tailoring in clothing adds sophistication, intricate furniture details bring an element of refined style to your home.
To ensure these features don’t feel trendy, it’s once again all about restraint and quality. Choose furniture pieces with well-crafted details that are designed to stand the test of time. Opt for timeless materials like quality wool, linen, or leather when selecting these furniture pieces. This will ensure that no matter how long you keep them, they will never feel out of place.
Natural Stone & Travertine

Natural stone (particularly travertine) is making a strong comeback – and for good reason! We’re seeing a ton of stunning travertine countertops, sleek stone backsplashes, and even subtle stone floors in all styles of homes in 2025.
Natural stone is both functional and beautiful with a texture that just can’t be replicated. Travertine in particular has an understated elegance. It’s softer than marble but still rich enough in texture to transform a cold space into an interior that feels organic and warm.
The key to keeping natural stone timeless is all in how you apply it. You can cover entire walls with stone for maximum impact, or you could consider using it for smaller accent areas like countertops, backsplashes, and even small tabletops. Pairing it with wood or neutral-colored fabrics will also help to keep it grounded and prevent it from feeling too bold.
