Springtime is officially upon us and with it comes the well-loved tradition (at least in my world!) of spring cleaning. There is truly nothing that makes me feel happier or more calm than a clean and organized space. In fact, I love it so much that I’ve created a spring cleaning guide designed specifically to help you clean, declutter, organize, and restock the most important spaces in your home.
This list might seem intimidating at first, but I promise if you tackle it a few tasks at a time you’ll have an incredibly clean and fresh home before you know it. I usually take a few weeks to deep clean our home about twice a year and I always refer to these tasks to make sure no space is left untouched.
Because I enjoy the satisfaction of checking tasks off a to-do list and prefer having a physical copy on my fridge, I’ve created a free printable just for you! Feel free to download and print this when you find yourself in need of a little spring cleaning motivation.
The first step in any successful spring cleaning process is to declutter and organize your living spaces. Start by tackling one room at a time, sorting through belongings and purging items that no longer serve a purpose or bring you joy. Be absolutely ruthless in your decluttering efforts. Ask yourself if each item truly adds value to your life or if it’s simply taking up space.
Once you’ve pared down your possessions, it’s time to organize what’s left. Invest in storage solutions like baskets, bins, and shelving units to corral clutter and keep things tidy.
Now that you’ve cleared away the clutter, you’re ready to tackle some serious cleaning! With everything nicely organized, you’ll have a much easier time reaching those nooks and crannies. Plus, sticking to this routine will make future cleaning tasks a breeze.
Once you’ve decluttered and organized your living spaces, it’s time to tackle the deep cleaning tasks. Start by dusting and vacuuming all surfaces, paying special attention to baseboards, light fixtures, and window treatments. Scrub floors, walls, and countertops with a mild detergent or all-purpose cleaner to remove dirt and grime.
Don’t forget to clean high-touch areas like doorknobs, light switches, and cabinet knobs to remove grime build-up. Finally, add a touch of freshness by incorporating natural air fresheners like citrus slices, essential oils, or fresh flowers.
Here’s a pro tip I learned over 20 years ago: use newspaper to clean windows, mirrors, and glass. Simply crumple up a sheet of newspaper, dampen it slightly with water or a vinegar solution, and wipe down the windows in circular motions. The absorbent texture of the newspaper removes dirt, grime, and grease while leaving behind a crystal-clear finish and no fuzzies. Opt for newspapers that have a soy based ink instead of petroleum-based (most newspapers use a soy-based ink) for the best results.
Now that your home is clean and organized, it’s time to restock key items to ensure that you have everything you need for the season ahead. Make a list of essential household supplies like cleaning products, toiletries, and pantry staples and replenish any items that are running low. Consider investing in multi-purpose cleaning products or eco-friendly alternatives.
Finally, take stock of your home decor and consider adding a few new pieces to refresh your space and welcome the season of renewal. Consider moving existing decor pieces into other rooms for an easy refresh. This also helps make old items feel new again (which we love here at KHD). Donate any decor pieces that you no longer love – they will definitely be appreciated by someone else!
Spring cleaning is all about creating a sense of peace and harmony in your home by clearing away the clutter and allowing space for new energy to flow. With this spring cleaning guide in hand, you’ll be well-equipped to declutter your home from top to bottom.
Has anyone else finished their spring cleaning yet? What time of year do you like to start? I definitely feel the most motivated when the weather starts to warm up!
