Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like me you believe that setting a beautiful table is just as important as the meal itself. Last week, I shared our tablescape for this year and I received so many lovely messages asking about the floral arrangements. So, I thought I’d share a quick guide on how to recreate these easy Thanksgiving floral centerpieces that are sure to bring a touch of elegance to your holiday table!

I’m a big fan of Trader Joe’s for fresh florals (who isn’t) – especially around the holidays. Their in-season selection never disappoints and I always find what I need at great prices. This year, I found my color palette inspiration for these centerpieces right outside my house. Our back yard is currently filled with vibrant, fall-colored leaves in deep cranberry, golden yellow, and burnt orange. This lively palette felt perfect for Thanksgiving without being too on the nose, so I snapped a photo to use as inspiration.

Armed with color palette inspo, I headed to Trader Joe’s and picked up 8 bundles of florals in similar hues plus a bit of white for balance. Each bundle was just $3.99 – making this project both affordable and impactful. For a touch of charm, I used my favorite vintage crystal footed vases that I found at a local thrift store for $4 each. In the end, I spent under $40 for these arrangements and we’ll be able to enjoy them for weeks!

Here’s a list of what I purchased for these Thanksgiving floral centerpieces:

  • (1) bundle white ranunculus
  • (1) bundle willow eucalyptus
  • (1) bundle giant amber mums
  • (1) bundle giant burgundy mums
  • (1) bundle white hydrangeas
  • (1) bundle pink dianthus carnations
  • (1) bundle almonda dianthus carnations
  • (1) bundle red St. John’s wort

Step 1: Start With Your Base

First, fill your vase with water and add a packet of plant food. Start by trimming the willow eucalyptus stems to varying lengths and arrange them evenly around the vase. Be sure to set some eucalyptus aside for later – you’ll use it to add additional volume and texture at the end. For this particular arrangement, I opted out of using flower frogs to give the design a more organic and flowing look, but I definitely recommend them if you feel like you need a sturdy base!

Step 2: Add Your Mums

Next, add in your statement florals – the giant amber and burgundy mums. Carefully remove the leaves and trim the stems to different lengths to create depth and variety in your arrangement. Place the mums evenly throughout the vase.

Step 3: Fill With Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are perfect for adding a lush filler. Cut the stems shorter so the flowers nestle deep into the vase which will give the illusion of a filled centerpiece. Remove the leaves from each stem and spread the hydrangeas evenly throughout the arrangement.

Step 4: Add Your Carnations & Ranunculus

For a touch of softness and color contrast, add in your dianthus carnations and ranunculus. Remove the leaves and trim the stems to your desired length. I love using ranunculus to give floral arrangements a modern touch. Their delicate, layered petals add an element of sophistication and also feel so fresh next to slim petaled floral.

Step 5: Final Touches

Now that all your flowers are in place, step back and assess the arrangement. Then, adjust each stem as needed to make sure the colors and textures are evenly distributed. For the final touch, drape the remaining eucalyptus over the edges of the vase to create a loose, unstructured look that makes the arrangement feel effortlessly beautiful.

These floral centerpieces feel both classic and current by blending fluffy, seasonal blooms with more modern shaped florals like ranunculus and eucalyptus. The goal with this arrangement is to keep the centerpieces looking natural and slightly undone to let the beauty of the flowers shine without feeling overly formal, so it’s okay if it’s a bit messy and unstructured!

These arrangements are the perfect way to brighten up your holiday table without breaking your budget. Remember that you don’t need to spend a fortune to make something stunning – just a little creativity and a visit to your local floral market or grocery store will do the trick.
